Role Objective:

DNO is committed to the health of its workforce and shall apply internationally accepted Oil and Gas field quality of care to its workforce in preventative and responsive care. A DNO Iraq ‘Health Management Strategy’ has been developed to ensure this commitment. The BU-MA is responsible for the implementation of this strategy. 

Essential Professional Skillset:

The BU-MA needs to possess professional leadership skills as well as a broad range of knowledge and skill relating to health and clinical education. In addition to knowledge of the usual branches of medicine and surgery, the BU-MA will also need to utilise their knowledge and skills in areas such as pharmacy, mental health, occupational health, health management, vaccinations, human factors and operational medicine.  In addition to health, the BU-MA will also need to understand HSE injury and case management issues. Additional essential skills include:

  • Flexibility: There are many factors Inherent to working in remote locations which require adaptability and flexibility on the part of the BU-MA. This includes a fast-changing operational tempo, sudden crises, extreme environments (e.g. heat, cold, security), and limited supplies and support. 
  • One Team Collaboration: To successfully deliver the health strategy, the BU-MA requires support from workers, supervisors, and managers and their back-to-back colleagues.  A collaborative mindset helps the BU-MA to build trust, establish strong working relationships and influence:
  • Professional Courage: BU-MA’s often need to make difficult clinical decisions in difficult circumstances, need to hold difficult conversations with employees, supervisors and management.

Responsibilites for the Role Delivery:

  • Accountable for the management and mentorship of the remote field-based Medical Team comprised of Expats and Kurdish Nationals 
  • Responsible to the BU HSE Manager to deliver the annual Medical Plan
  • Responsible to the BU HSE Manager to track and report on Medical KPIs for the BU
  • Responsible to delivery daily SitRep and monthly BU Medical reports
  • Responsible for daily check-in, interaction, and communications with the field
  • Responsible for ensuring that field clinics are fully stocked and reman in a state of readiness
  • Responsible for ensuring that field ambulances are fully stocked, inspected and maintained in a state of readiness
  • Responsible for managing the Fitness to Work program
  • Manage Field Medics Training (FMiT) and develop FMiTs in preparation for undertaking internationally certified medical training
  • Development and implementation of competency framework against international standards
  • Implementation of international-standard Clinical Practice Guidelines across all DNO sites.
  • Provide SME-link between DNO and contracted medical top cover provider
  • Provision of internal clinical governance and clinical audit systems against international standards
  • Maintain all site Medical Emergency Response Plans (MERPs)

The BU-MA is responsible for providing project management support across the BU’s operational fields, to develop a robust, and sustainable, medical/health matrix to maximise health improvement outcomes, create effective service processes and achieve BU priority targets against the Health Activity Plan and Health Management Strategy. Working across organisational boundaries, the post entails close working with senior managers, field-based clinicians and service providers to ensure service redesign and project management support for transformational change and service improvement in-line with the company’s local nationalisation aspirations.

Qualifications & Experience:

To ensure competent practice and delivery of the DNO Iraq Health Management Strategy and Health Activity Plan the BU-MA must possess the following:

  • Master’s Degree (MSc.) in an advanced Clinical / Medical field
  • A current internationally recognized professional registration with a relevant national regulatory body, e.g. HCPC or NREMT.
  • At least 5-years of clinical working experience in an Emergency Medicine and Primary Healthcare setting.
  • 10-year working experience of delivering clinical education/training and mentoring relevant to the remote/austere environment.
  • Previous supervisory and / or team leader experience
  • Fluent in Oral and Written English.
  • Previous frontline remote/austere area medical delivery experience.
  • Evidence of successful Project Management experience in a similar setting.
  • Holds current trauma certification and ACLS, or equivalent training and certification.
  • Be educated to degree-level in relevant subject area (desirable).
  • Hold current, internationally recognized teaching/instructor certifications relevant to pre-hospital care.
  • Maintain a professional portfolio and continual professional development through CME/CPD.

The role reports to the BU HSE Manager and will be based out of Erbil office with frequent site visits within Kurdistan. The work schedule will be rotational 29 days on / 27 days off and will be 12 months fixed term contract to start with and could be extendable subject to considerations.
